I observe that you all here are yearning for someone of Reaganesque political stature. With all due respect of whatever policy differences you and I no doubt have, I kindly suggest you listen to Obama's victory speech in SC...

Obama seems to definitely have some momentum going... but he's hardly Regeanesque.....

Obama is the Jimmy Carter of the DNC. He is weak on defense weak on leadership the only thing he has going for him is the empty promise of change. For some reason a socialism doesn't impress me. Resorting back to communism style socialist doesn't sound very appealing to me. Government handout to the typical crowd who refuse to work and rely on the Government nanny system. Obama represents handouts at its finest.

Fred had good ideas and made some hard choices on the direction he was going. He made the hard choices that the Democrats tend to change the subject and blame Bush instead of facing the issue and telling us what will you do. The whole election goes deeper than blaming Bush for everything and focusing on Iraq.

Iran poses a threat to stability in the middle east and dancing around the issue what message will you send to radical Islam who senses weakness in your party. Pacifism is the only message socialist know. History shows pacifism has only emboldened the enemy in the past and has lead to the rise of characters like Hitler to force the coward countries to fight or be conquered. Islam threatens to conquer the world and they are very candid about their intentions. To vote for a weak candidate during a time of war is stupid. I think Americans are smart enough to pop that bubble and bring the dream of change back to reality.

He may be left of your beliefs, fire, but Obama is hardly a socialist. None of his proposals are any more extreme than what can be found in any country in western Europe, and they all clearly have market economies. I live over here -- people don't walk around in a soulless daze.

He's also not a pacifist, as this speech from 2002 shows:

I realize my posting here is a longshot. I just had the inkling that members of this group were expecting Thompson to rise up to some statesmanly ideal reminiscent of Reagan, which by any honest analysis he failed by a long shot! (Though not one of his backers, I certainly expected more from him!)

Face it: the Republican Party is in ruins. I bet none of you are happy with the choices left to you.

I simply ask that, even if you can't actively support Obama and his platform, that you at least look and see if you might find some strands of agreement with which we can begin rebuilding the fabric of our country again.

I'm frankly tired of the partisan bickering and the cynicism that reigns in our country. I think back to the feeling of hope and potential that pulled the country together during the Reagan era. More and more I'm convinced that Obama could do that as well.

I was impressed with Obama the first several times I heard him speak. I had to then stop and realize that I was impressed not by WHAT he said, but HOW he said it. Great stage presence and great speeches do not mean you'll get a great president.

I agree that there is a good bit of rebuilding that needs to be done. It is not, however, one side or the other. It is the "us vs. them" mentality that BOTH parties are living.

Clinton and Obama are bickering like children so much that I don't think I could vote for either of them even if I was a Democrat.

I did not become a Thompson supporter because I thought he could live up to the ideal of Reagan (or anyone else). I don't believe that is any more of a reason to vote for someone than those that are voting for Hillary because she's a woman or for those who would vote for Obama because he's African-American. I support Thompson because of HIS views (that are clearly laid out on his website), and not because of some ideal I'm reaching for from a past leader (as great as I thought Reagan was).
